The University of Tasmania, School of Mathematics and Physics invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on Galactic Radio Astronomy, this position will be offered on a full-time fixed-term basis for a period of 2 years with the possibility of an extension.

The research is focused on the Galactic Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder Survey, GASKAP, which is a study of the Milky Way and Magellanic Clouds using atomic hydrogen and OH spectral lines at 21-cm and 18-cm wavelengths. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will work in Hobart with frequent visits to the CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science headquarters in Sydney to coordinate with the team developing the software for the ASKAP telescope, currently under construction in Western Australia.

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will have particular responsibility for developing automated techniques for data reduction of 21-cm absorption and emission spectra, and for archiving and dissemination of the survey results. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will carry out independent research on cm-wave Galactic astronomy using existing telescopes in preparation for the GASKAP survey.

The appointment will be at Academic Level A and will have a total remuneration package of up to $86,572 per annum (comprising salary within the range $69,154 – $ 73,993 plus 17% superannuation, with the option of an additional 3% salary loading in exchange for 14% instead of 17% superannuation).
