[2012/2013] Radio 4EBFM Ethnic Scholarship at Queensland University, Australia

QUT and Radio 4EBFM are pleased to announce the Radio 4EBFM Ethnic Scholarship, available to Creative Industries students. This scholarship is facilitated by previous Vice-Chancellor Professor Gibson.

Eligibility details:
We’ll assess your application based on your academic record.
You must be from a non-English speaking background. This means that at least one of your parents must have been born overseas. If you’re proficient in a language other than English, this will help your application.
This scholarship is for students in all years of their study.
You must be studying, or planning to study, journalism.

What you receive
You’ll receive:
a scholarship valued at $5,000 for one year full-time (or equivalent).
The scholarship will pay for HECS exemption, with the balance provided in cash for living expenses.

How to apply
Submit a portfolio, containing:
1. your personal details, including your:
2. * name
* address
* ethnicity
* languages
* employment status
* Radio 4EBFM membership, if applicable.
3. academic record, secondary and tertiary.
4. course details, including the course you’re nominating for, whether you’re studying full-time or part-time, and what year of your course you’re in.
5. personal statement of 4-5 paragraphs, indicating why you should be selected for the scholarship. Include your personal goals and ambitions, personal achievements, and your vision for the role of ethnic community media in Australia.
6. broadcasting background – a short statement of 2-3 paragraphs detailing your experience in broadcasting or panel operating, including experience at Radio 4EBFM.
7. Radio 4EBFM commitment – a paragraph stating your preparedness to participate in Radio 4EBFM activities.

Send your portfolio, marked ‘Private and confidential’ to the Radio 4EBFM Scholarship.

What happens next
We’ll assess your application based on the selection criteria.
We may award the scholarship based solely on the portfolio, or we may interview shortlisted applicants.

Conditions
You must retain membership in Radio 4EBFM, and contribute as a volunteer to Radio 4EBFM. This includes:
* assisting in preparing the Radio 4EBFM newsletter
* compiling reports on outside broadcasts
* compiling community billboard announcements
* participating in QUT-related programs at the station.

You can reapply for the scholarship each year of your studies.
