The scholarships were established in 2003 by the Rotary Club of Riccarton, Christchurch, to celebrate 50 years of service to the local community.

Purpose of award
The scholarships are to support those persons who have an interest in developing their knowledge and skills in the rehabilitation of youth addicted to drugs and/or alcohol, including those persons already working in the area.

Selection criteria
Awarded to students studying, at a tertiary level, the rehabilitation of youth addicted to drugs and/or alcohol.

In recommending the award of any scholarship the Committee shall consider the applicant’s academic record and the potential of the applicant to make a contribution to the field of rehabilitation of youth addicted to drugs and/or alcohol.

How do students apply?
The Committee shall consider the potential of the applicant to make a contribution to the field of rehabilitation of youth addicted to drugs and/or alcohol. Each application must contain a statement outlining this contribution as envisaged by the applicant.

Additional information
Should there be no suitable candidate in any year no award shall be made.

The scholarship may be held with any other scholarship, bursary, prize, or tertiary allowance, unless the conditions of the other awards preclude this.
